That's great, both Liz and Joanne. Don't be shy, write us one:)

Liz, I just found out recently there's a flat rate international package that I can get several books inside for $12.95, which isn't too bad. So if you want to do a few reviews, let me know!

This is just fantastic! At one point I was going to send you a note to tell you which of the poems in your book I most appreciated. I stopped myself because it occurred to me that the poems I choose say far more about me and my frame of reference than anything about the poems.

I've never said one unbiased thing in my life and I'm not convinced that it's possible. This new review policy honestly reflects reality, in my most humble opinion.

Hi Tim,

I love this idea of a new type of book review, I am not at all a practising reviewer but would love to give reviewing this way a shot. I can't ask you for any of the books you have for review as I don't live in the States but I hope to blog about this whole idea too and there are one or two recent books I've bought that I'd like to review like this.

great posts, thanks.

Yes, and yes. When I write reviews (which isn't nearly often enough), I always take the approach of "What kind of reader would enjoy or not enjoy this piece? Is this surrealist? Imagist? Personal or political? Structured or seemingly random?" There is so much more to a book of poems than whether or not the poet properly utilizes iambs and trochees, line breaks and syntax. Let's face it--if there wasn't an audience for such a book somewhere, the book wouldn't have been published. My task as critic has always been to figure out who that audience is. I confess, though, that I think your approach would be much more enjoyable to write. I'll have to give it a try.
